We're here at the Topless 100 at Batesville Speedway. The tops are off and the action is hot, around 100 degrees air temperature. But rain has come and the mud is formed....
Seventy-one late model teams showed up to win the top prize of $40,000 at this annual classic run by track owner and manager Mooney Star and his wife Connie.
We are here too in our CT motorhome parked just outside the pit gate surrounded by gumbo mud roads soaked by last nights rains that postponed the main event until 2:00PM today.
But not until local favorite Billy Moyer advanced from the "B" Main by winning that event in typical fashion by laying back in a distant third from the two leaders until the first caution. It was then that he came alive and surprised the second place car and went on to take the lead.
Today it will be interesting to see if he can come from the rear and add to his incredible yearly total of over $200,000 in winnings.
