It's Saturday so I must be at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, Virginia. This track has a history with me, as well as outright. I'm glad to be back...
It was 1996, the driver was Wes Troup, and I was his engineer. Together we won 14 races, won the ODS track championship, won the Atlantic Seaboard Regional championship and finished third in the nation in Nascar short track points.
It was my first full time consulting job and Wes's owner paid me $600 when I showed up at the track to not say who I was or work with any other teams. I came to a lot of races that year.
I spoke with Dickie Gore, the promoter then and now. We talked about the correct way to promote races and he is one of the best to learn from. I will be providing lots of that kind of information in upcoming articles in Circle Track. For now, it is the calm before the races. I'll tell you how it went tomorrow.
