The New GM organization gets a new chairman in one Edward Whitacre, Jr., the former head of ATT. Will he be racer friendly or did Nascar burn a bridge over the ATT vs. Sprint deal a few years ago?
The continuation of GM's support of the racing industry will be determined by the attitude of the new management team that is due to take over this summer. It is of great importance to the racing community for the simple reason that a majority of engines and cars racing around in circles here in America are GM products.
GM Performance Parts is a supplier of the Crate motors and other parts and pieces used in many series. If certain decisions were made at the top of GM, all of that might come to a crashing halt. Let's hope that these new leaders take into account the benefits that racing has brought to the GM organization and will continue to bring.
We here at Circle Track have recently seen an attitude from the GM guys who work with racers to move on to more enviromentally friendly racing and are actively working to develop what we call Green Racing initiatives. Racing can and will fuel the drive for cleaner propulsion systems for all vehicles just as it has driven other advancements in automotive technology.
