It seems that over the years, certain genre of circle track racing has grown in numbers and popularity and some have not. If we look for the reasons why, one thing jumps out at us.....
Looking at all of the different types of circle track racing including sprint cars, stock cars, Super modifieds, IMCA type modifieds, asphalt and late models and even Indy cars, we can see a progression of eitther growth or decline. Why is it that some are successful and others slide?
If we examine the more successful types of racing they include sprint cars, dirt late models, dirt modifieds and asphalt outlaw late models. What all of these have in common is the lack of stringent rules. That is, and always has been, attractive to the racer at heart.
It's what we do, we invent. A racer lives to find something that will possibly mean more performance and a possible win. Take that away with strict rules that cause the cars to end up as clones and the interest goes away. Be aware you series and track owners, when you remove the incentive to race, you lose racers, period.
