I just had a readers response to our aero article in the August issue of CT. He thinks that the piece was negative on the winged sprint cars when in actuallity it could have a very positive influence. Here's why....
When we do an article, one of the main objectives is to get racers to think. We don't expect everyone to agree with all that we present from all of the contributors, but we do insist it spark an interest in everyone.
That being said, this article was very informative and pointed out several potential problems with the way sprint car wings are designed and used. How do we know for sure. We don't. But we can find out and I'll bet there are teams who are doing just that right now, as we type.
Realistically, there are those who chose to discount anything that differs from the old established way, and those are most times the field fillers. Then you have the more innovative teams that will either invent on their own, or they will pick up tid-bits from here and there and run with it to get better. Are you going to fill the field or run to the front. Don't discount anything until it is proven right or wrong.
