WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Wall Stadium will honor the memory of one of its most successful and popular drivers this Saturday night (August 15).
JOHN BLEWETT III MEMORIAL 76 FOR MODIFIEDS THIS
The first annual “John Blewett III Memorial” will feature the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modified stock cars in a 76-lap championship race. Qualifying is set for 6:00 p.m. with Able Ford Subaru Racing Series main event competition schedule to start at 7:30 p.m. sharp.
The late John Blewett III, who passed away from injuries suffered in a racing accident at the Thompson International Raceway in Connecticut two years ago, started his career at Wall Stadium and won 21 main events at the speedway including the prestigious Garden State Classic and the Turkey Derby. Blewett also won the 2006 Modified title at the shore speedway and his championship car, the now retired red, white and blue No. 76, will be on display in the grandstand midway during Saturday evening’s activities.
All of the top RBSS Modified drivers at the speedway have made it clear that this is an event that they want to win. Eight time champion Dave Michel of Manahawkin says that he will be in the field, along with point leader Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Chas Okerson of Freehold, Lavallette’s Adam LaCicero, Scott Riggleman of Manchester, Tim Arre of Toms River and Anthony Sesely of Manalapan. Perhaps the sentimental favorite in the contest will be John Blewett III’s brother, multi-time 2009 winner Jimmy Blewett of Howell.
Many members of the Blewett family, led by patriarch John Blewett, Sr., will be on hand to greet the winner.
In addition to the Modified 76-lapper, the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman racers, the Street Stocks and the INEX Legend Cars will all race in 25-lappers, while the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks will anchor the program with a 20-lap feature race.
The day will start at high noon when competitor gates open, while a two hour paid practice session will begin at 1:00 p.m. The day’s regularly scheduled practice will run from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., while spectator seating opens at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying for all divisions begins at 6:00 p.m. with main event racing starting at 7:30 p.m.
