Today I attended the funeral for Bruce Rossmeyer. For those of you who don't know who he is, read on....
Bruce Rossmeyer was not only the largest Harley Davidson dealer in the country, or a person who loved his family and friends, he was more. How much more? Lots more in my opinion. He gave of himself and raised money for children.
He, along with Paul Newman, helped found Camp Boggy Creek, a place where me and my wife Karen volunteer, and he was on the board of directors there. The camp is a place of retreat for serious and chronically ill children. Each year he helped raise money for the camp to the tune of $300,000 plus during one weekend with a Harley ride to the camp. He helped Kyle Petty with the formation of Victory Junction Camp and participated in the Ride Kyle organized each year.
Bruce supported Daytona Beach area Boys and Girls Clubs where underpriviledged kids could find encouragement and support. Many times these were places that became the home they never had.
I write this because people like Bruce show us that this world is not all about making money, but instead about caring for others. He did both, but his passion by far was the later. He would say, "it's not about making money, it's about making friends." To me that is what racing is all about, so in spirit, we are in sync with Bruce.
