Sometimes we just need a little coaxing in the right direction to make a big difference in our racing program...
I had a reader who was running his dirt late model on asphalt at several tracks. Evidently, this form of crossover racing has become popular in certain areas.
He told me what the car was doing and asked me to help him setup for his next race. I told him that I didn't setup cars by email, my standard reply when asked for specific setup information.
What I did was offer some basics that he could apply to the car to get within a certain window of opportunity with his setup.
He ran this past weekend and first tried his setup. The car wasn't good, so he changed over to things I had suggested, not too specific, but what we preach month after month here in CT.
The results were that his lap times went from 14.80's to 13.90's. He started 12th in the race and in five laps was leading.
I didn't give him some earth shattering, secret setup, I gave him basics to follow and these are things you can apply to your car to make it better. This setups stuff isn't rocket science, it all comes down to basics.
