The weekend started out with such promise but quickly turned south once the green flag waved on Saturday.
The saying "when it rains it pours" couldn't of been truer on Saturday night for us. Our Circle Track Project Car arrived on Saturday at a track that I had some success at before. S.Georgia is a D-shaped oval that has very little banking, but a lot of grip. When Practiced opened up we quickly learned that we were going to be battling a tight condition. We tried everything to get the push out of the car. The team and I ended up getting the car pretty close but it was still pretty tight once the practice ended. The team made a bunch of changes for qualifying to try and loosen up the car. We made it a lot better and qualified 3 tenths faster then we had ran all day. The car ended up being 9th fastest. But it was all for not, 50 laps into the race while running top ten we ended up having battery/alternator problems. We had to change the battery three times, which regulated us to a 12th place finish.
To make things worse as we were driving home, our tow vehicle broke down just outside of Atlanta. We sat on the side of the road for 6 hours before we could get someone to tow the truck and trailer to get it repaired.
So 2 races down, and the bad luck continues. But the good news is the car is in one piece and we can work on making it better for the next race in Langley, VA on May 23. Come out and introduce yourselves!
