I traveled to Alaska last August with my wife Karen. We spent sixteen days traveling 2600 miles by air and land, and covered 760 miles of Alaska north to south from north of the Brooks Range in upper Alaska down to the Katmai Peninsula and National Park and lots of places inbetween.
What amazed me was that there are race tracks in Alaska. The summer is relatively short when compared to what most of us have, but nonetheless, Alaskans find the time and resources to put together race cars and run the local tracks at Fairbanks and Anchorage. And no, these are not ice racing events, but similiar to what we have in the lower 48. Pretty cool, excuse the pun.
