WISSOTA names 30 year veteran of the dirt track industry to Executive Director post.
On Sunday, March 22, 2009, the WISSOTA board of directors completed its search for a new Executive Director with the hiring of Terry Voeltz, one of many candidates who applied in response to advertising placed across the U.S. in trade publications for the position.
Throughout the development process of creating this new position within WISSOTA, the board of directors was assisted by a knowledgeable group of member promoters whose input stretched from writing the new job description to completing the interview process.
Voeltz, who had served two stints on the WISSOTA board and was president of the organization since 2004, resigned his elected post on the board of directors to accept the Executive Director position.
Voeltz, a 30 year veteran of the dirt track industry, started out as a driver and became a board member of various midwest racing associations in the 70s and 80s. He was a longtime member promoter of WISSOTA at both Jamestown Speedway in North Dakota and Brown County Speedway in South Dakota.
Voeltz has also been deeply involved in fundraising efforts at his alma mater, Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. He lives in Aberdeen with his wife, Jane, and daughter, Chandra, and will maintain an office there for his Executive Director duties.
The board of directors expects a smooth transition as it places responsibility for day-to-day operations on the new Executive Director and begins a restructuring phase which will allow its members to spend more time planning for the future and seeking for ways to expand the benefits member promoters receive when they join the association. Voeltz will report on the status of the organization monthly at each board meeting, and will report directly to the member promoters at each annual meeting.
As part of his new duties, Voeltz will take the lead role in planning events such as the WISSOTA 100, the WISSOTA Expo, the annual meeting and national awards banquet, the WISSOTA Winter Workshops and more. He will also travel extensively throughout the racing season to visit with and assist member promoters, and will be their primary contact for interpreting policies and procedures. In addition, Voeltz will be responsible for servicing WISSOTA’s current sponsors and attracting new marketing partners for WISSOTA, one of the nation’s largest sanctioning bodies.
