Danica vs. Milka - I'm just waiting for Vince McMahon to show up.
It seems that in IndyCar Racing these days Danica Patrick is trying to grab headlines any way she can. She's gotten in heated debates with a number of her male counterparts on the circuit. She's been called a menace by Scott Dixon and a whiney little brat by members of ESPN. But it got really really good this past weekend, when, after qualifying, Danica got in the face of Milka Duno, the Venezulan who drives the Citgo sponsored Dreyer & Reinbold Racing entry. Apparently, Patrick took issue with Milka's "slow" driving style.
In video replayed boatloads of times on YouTube, Patrick stomps over to the Duno pits to confront the sophomore driver. In what has become typical fashion Patrick begins a tirade..which this time is promptly met by a towel thrown in her face, not once but twice. When Patrick confronts a male racer who she's feels has wronged her, she knows she's not going to get hit! After all, that would be career suicide. But confronting Duno was a different story. Watch the video. It's pretty clear that Duno has no problem standing up to her highness Ms. Patrick. While I was personally watching the replay waiting for Milka to unload a big ol' left hook, she only threw her towel-less hand up in digust and walked away. Patrick wisely backed off.
Here's the sad point of this blog. After becoming the first female to win an major closed course auto race in history, Danica Patrick had the opportunity to become a true trailblazer for women racers all over the world. But alas she has proven with yet another "get in my competitor's face tantrum" that she is the last role model young women racer's need. Perhaps World Wrestling Entertainment's Vince McMahon will come calling for Danica with a title belt match against Mickie James.
