Talk about coming out of left field! Saw the headline scroll across the bottom of the screen during the Red Wings/Avalanche game last night "Tony Stewart's Future with Gibbs in doubt"...
Was pretty shocked to read it.
Now, part of this can be expected. With his contract up after next year, Tony's smart enough to know that taking a look at his options is good. But leaving Gibbs, I'm not so sure.
Let's face it, in recent history, no owner/driver has been able to be successful. Michael Waltrip, Kyle Petty, those are to two that come to mind instantly. Do I see Tony as being a good team owner? Absolutely, but not until he's gonna step out of the car and devote his full attention to being an owner.
What do you guys think? Wouldn't Joe Gibbs Racing be best served by starting a 4th team and giving Tony 50% stake in it, like Jeff Gordon is with Rick Hendrick on Jimmy Johnson's car?
