We head to the dyno at Southern Style Racing Engines!
We ran our 362 cubic inch open dirt late model engine on George Pils dyno at his Pinellas Park race shop. After baselining the motor with a super late carb that George had one hand we slapped our Holley on top. But before we made a single pull we noted a couple of problems, the least of which was the inproper jets for our application. We (I say "we" but I really mean George) did a quick rebuild on the carb which included new floats, new jets, new gaskets and a little TLC.
The engine baselined at 513 hp at 6,800 rpm. When we put on the freshly rebuilt Holley we got 512 hp at the same 6,800. We were pleased since a 1/4" of stagger will easily make up the difference. Now those numbers are going to be a bit too much motor for our first race at East Bay Raceway Park (a tight 1/3 miler in Tampa) but should do well at the second one, East Alabama (a fast 1/2 miler in Phenix City).
To find out something else key that we learned during this dyno run you'll have to subscribe to the magazine and be on the lookout for a story titled Dirt Late Model Dyno Session #1.
